Health
Health…..
This is my first post, and I am delighted to be able to have a forum like this to share, exchange and learn. I can´t thank enough the people who have helped me in my ever expanding and interesting journey, which of the most important members have been the ¨unknown¨ characters, those whom I have encountered who share a thoughts, and idea, opinion which have raddled me inside sharing a piece of enlightenment, directing me in the direction which unconsciously I was looking fore. This reminds me of my first day of class, back in the late 90´s and we where shown a video of one of the last classes one of the most admirable persons I did not have the chance to meet, but knew through his legacy and records he left behind in books, audios, and videos, Dr. John Christopher. Such as the one we where shown that day, he addresses his students, with the following words, which I rephrase…… ¨10% of what you learn in class will serve you in your practices, 90% you will learn through divine inspiration, observation and by and through the people you encounter in your practice¨
In this my first post, I would like to talk about Health. This is my personal view and understanding of the subject which I openly share and know it is not the truth. Having said this I openly welcome feedback from you the reader, to assist me once again direct me in the given case I have not paid attention to a flower on the side of the road, being to occupied staring at the moon above or vice versa.
Here now, take a second and ask your self what is health? What does it mean to you, take away all the clutter which we have been bombarded and filled from every angle. Take away the education and instruction of what health is and is not, ask you’re self and simplify or expand according to what you feel, sense and perceive health is. It is common today to be reared in to a particular way of thinking, acting and even feeling of the way things are and are not, and with out individually assessing our selves on the state of the matters from a ¨outside the box¨ view.
Is health…..being disease free? Happy? Stress-free? Comfortable? In good spirit?
Here is what the dictionary says;
Health from www.thefreedictionary.com
1. The overall condition of an organism at a given time.
2. Soundness, especially of body or mind; freedom from disease or abnormality.
3. A condition of optimal well-being: concerned about the ecological health of the area.
4. A wish for someone’s good health, often expressed as a toast.
Personally I have had an idea and conception of what health is, changing constantly as I encounter different circumstances and people. Some times believing, I found the close to perfect idea, definition and example of what health is to have that idea/definition completely shattered the next moment. Which lead me to understand that health holds no particular pattern and fits in no particular mold and most important is not general and definitely not average as much as humans attempt to control and rear towards our desired state. I came to understand health as a multi-component sum, made up of various moments, decisions, feelings, views, believes, actions and reactions. I often feel that the pursuit of health is being searched with a fraction map, that some one else gave us! It became clearer when I understood the etymology of the word health, as a Proto-Indo-European derivative from the word *kailo- “whole, uninjured, of good omen” so I like to think of health rather as wholeness as this helps me shift the enforced paradigms of isolation, reductionist, to one of integration and completeness.
It is no secret that we face today the greatest challenges as a species, health being one of the most important and sadly one that we are vehemently loosing. We observe the younger generations suffering ailments early in their lives, where as previous generations where suffering in the later stages of their life. The constant and chronic ailments which plague young and old, with no end or a realistic mainstream hope to their misery in sight, yet we have the highest volume of experts in the field of health, with the largest budgets ever dedicated to searching for answers to the puzzle of health. We need to but go to our local bookstore to find whole lot of books addressing the issue from all angles, all very valid no matter how outrageous the claim might be. It was this extreme diversity which assisted me in deducing from observation what can be considered a principle of our pursuit for health. That being, that in this ever growing diversity of theories, practices, experts, hypotheses, etc. We find a hidden yearning for transcendence, change, integration, empowerment and self-responsibility.
A right! Health is a natural state, when you are in a healthy situation and environment, oddly enough today health is more of a phenomenon that is ever elusive and it shows up spontaneously for a couple blissful moments here and there only to loose itself, placing us back on the constant, frustrating and expensive path to search for it. There is no doubt in my mind that health is a natural state of being, at least it was and just like many other natural states of being where man has influenced over them, only to disturb enough to the point they are imbalanced, seeking to balance them again through the same methods which caused the problem in the first place.
My intention is not to point fingers, create conflict rather to make us feel once again. This feeling is not the sensorial stimulation from external circumstances. Rather is a reversion to our self, where wisdom, sense and YOU exist.
I would like to close this first blog, by quoting the most comprehensive and rational definition for health I have found.
¨Health is not the total absence of ailment, rather the best possible equilibrium that an INDIVIDUAL can achieve in an active relationship with his/her environment, in any determinate moment of his/her life, with in a country, culture, and historical period, health is a right that involves all of society¨ Pichon Riviere

Thank you Miguel…. Loving the quotes and especially your outlook. My favorite part and the place i resonate the most with is the third to last paragraph… Your intention…AWESOME~
